St. Francis High School Class of 1961 Endowment Fund

Questions and Answers

1.

What is the purpose of this Endowment Fund?

The Class of "61” Endowment Fund was created to provide scholarships for young Christian students desiring to attend St. Francis, but needing financial assistance.

2.

How did this idea come about?

Class of "61” members sitting on the SFHS Alumni Scholarship Committee found it hauntingly difficult to choose only one candidate from several deserving and needy candidates.  And thus was born the idea that the Class of "61” (founding Alumni group) could create a perpetual funding mechanism to provide needed scholarships.

3.

Who will hold the endowment money?

We have chosen The DuPage Community Foundation.

4.

What is the DuPage Community Foundation (DCF)?

The DuPage Community Foundation (DCF) is an independent Not-For-Profit (501c3) organization designed specifically to accept, invest and redistribute gifted monies, as directed by a "Deed of Gift”, for organizations like the SFHS Class of "61” Endowment Fund.

Information on the DuPage Community Foundation (DCF) can be found on their website, www.dcfdn.org.

5.

Who will manage the Endowment Fund?

The DCF has three independent managers managing different segments of the entire Fund.  Information can be found at  www.dcfdn.org.  The Board of Directors of the DCF has full control over the selection and retention of its money managers.

6.

Who will determine the individuals receiving the financial aid?

The Class of ’61 will follow the present process now used by St. Francis to determine financial need.  This process (available by request) used by the school’s Financial Aid Committee will determine candidates who are then forwarded to the Scholarship Committee of the Alumni Association.  The Alumni Committee will, in turn, meet with Class of ’61 representatives to assist in the determination of scholarship awards.  The Scholarship Committee of the SFHS Alumni Association will determine awards should no Class of ‘61’ representatives be available.

7.

What are the criteria for determining the needy student?

Financial need, in addition to academic record, in-service participation and letters of recommendation.
